Light was filtering in through the curtain and she stirred in my arms. I held her even tighter. I didn’t want her to wake up yet. I was enjoying how warm and delicious her body felt pressed against mine.
The doorbell ringing pissed me off. I could ignore it. But ignoring Anya’s sweet lips as she turned to kiss me was something I didn’t plan on avoiding.
“Morning.” Her sleepy blue eyes and bed hair was the most adorable thing in the world.
“Morning yourself gorgeous.” I kissed her back hoping like hell I didn’t have morning breath.
The fucking doorbell continued to ring and it was annoying me. “Let me see who that is so I can’t tell them to fuck off.” Planting another kiss on her lips, I slid out of bed and pulled on my shorts.
Pounding my way across the carpet I yanked open the door. What the fuck? The bitch standing on the other side was the last person I wanted to see.
“You’ve got to be kidding me?” Rolling my eyes, I glared at the heartless whore that fucked my life up. “What do you want Lynda?”
“Is that any way to greet an old friend?” The bitch was still beautiful, but I knew now it was a plastic fucking makeover.
“I don’t remember us being friends. Why are you here?” She pushed her way past me. The only reason she had the capability was because I was shocked at the action. I’d forgotten what a domineering cunt she was.
“Stop being such a jerk and offer me coffee.” Her smile attempted to be seductive, it made me want to gag.
“I’m starving Sin, are you ready to…” Fuck, hell and damnation. My sweet little lily was staring right at my past. I wanted to shield her eyes from the vicious whore in my hall, it was too late for that.
Lynda eyes roamed over my precious Anya and sneered. I wanted to rip those eyes from her head.
“Who’s the little girl Sin? You playing with babies now?”
Her cold laugh raked down my spine and I felt my rage build. My only thought was to keep her away from my girl. “Anya wait for me in the bedroom.” I saw the hurt in her eyes as she walked away.
Goddamn this bitch. Turning my face back to Linda I glared. “I want you the fuck out of my house now!” I hurt my girl because of this woman. If I didn’t already hate her, my opinion was cemented in concrete now.
“Oh my god,” Linda threw back her perfectly styled hair and laughed. “You’ve fallen in love. With that?”
She had no idea how close to being knocked on her ass she was. No one talked about my girl that way. “Get the fuck out or I’ll toss you out on your plastic ass, bitch. You feel me?”
I was on the verge of psychotic. Anya was worth a million of her. Even with all the plastic surgery I could see that age had finally caught up with her. I smirked. Opening the front door I pointed her to the exit.
“Your father sent me.”
Those words were the only reason I didn’t follow through on my threat. I knew she had a position on the board of my dad’s hospital. We didn’t have a close relationship, but I wasn’t a piece of shit. He did matter to me.
“He’s had an accident. You know he doesn’t like to bother you, but he needs your help. I came to take you to him.”
Accident. My father? I hadn’t talked to him in months, he wouldn’t have called me. “Tell me where he is, I can find my own way.” I chilled down the rage in my voice. She wasn’t here on a personal mission. I could keep my shit in order long enough to hear her out.
“He’s in a private rehab. You’re not on the list Sin. I will get you in, but I only have today off.” The smirk she gave made me wonder if this was something more.
The sad fact is she could be telling the truth. I’d shut my dad out the same way I had everyone else in my life over the years. “Let me get Anya and we’ll follow.”
“Do you really think taking your little girlfriend is appropriate? I know you shuck your responsibilities Sin, but think about it. This is a family thing.”
Anya was my family now, but I wasn’t willing to explain it to this well-bred piece of trash. I didn’t know how the meeting with my father would go, or what condition he was in. It was better for Anya that I deal with this on my own.
“Wait in the car. I’ll be down when I’m dressed.” I dismissed her and walked to my bedroom.
Anya was dressed and pulling on her shoes when I entered. “Baby I have something to take care of.”
She nodded her head but wasn’t looking at me. This was definitely not a good sign. “I wouldn’t leave if I didn’t have to.”
“I understand. Go take of your ex.” How the hell had she figured out Linda was my ex?
“Anya this isn’t what it looks like.” I needed to make her understand that cunt meant nothing to me.
She’d pulled on her other shoe. “My cars at Kera’s. Could you drop me off?”
I didn’t want her riding in the car with Linda. Keeping that crazy bitch far away from her was all I could think about. “Take my BMW, I’ll get Linda to drop me off at your place later.”
She didn’t argue. I was glad to realize she was finally seeing things in the right light. I walked over to the island bar and picked up the keys. “I’ll be back as soon as I can.”
I kissed her forehead quickly. I didn’t put it past Linda to walk back in the house if I wasn’t out soon enough for her liking. I walked Anya to the car and watched her drive off. There was a feeling in my gut that made me sick.
I slid into Linda’s chauffeured ride and kept quiet as we made the trip to our destination. I hated being close to her again. I was worried about my father, but longing to be back home with Anya.
chapter twenty-four
Crashing
I knew in my heart that a man like Sin couldn’t be mine indefinitely. That didn't mean my heart wasn’t breaking. I managed to make it back to my dorms without breaking down. Kimberley and Lana tried to talk to me, but I was in my own world of misery.
I walked back into my small room and locked the door. Curling up on the single bed I cried until there was nothing left inside of me. I couldn’t compete with a woman like Linda.
She was everything I wasn’t. Rich, poised, and experienced. I had only guessed about her being Sin’s ex. I hated knowing I was right. I’d heard the things she said about me, and deep in my soul I felt that she was right.
To Sin I was a baby. We never talked about his age but I knew he was in his mid-thirties. I was a fool to think he could really love me. I was a college student who could barely afford to feed herself.
A man with his money and looks could have anyone he chose. I’d been a fun diversion until his ex showed up. Now he would get back the one his heart had always wanted. God this was killing me.
I picked up the phone and called Kera. I didn’t want to see Sin when he returned, that would just make things harder. I asked if she’d drive my car over and I could give her a ride back. She agreed and I told Kimberley to give Sin’s keys to him when he showed up.
“I knew that man was going to hurt you.” Kimberley pulled me into her arms and I hugged her back. There was no reason to say anything different. Whether it was Sin’s fault or my own, I was still hurting.
Kera drove me back to her house and I knew I still needed to return Sin’s other car. I explained what happened and she was visibly shocked.
“I can’t believe he would go back with that woman honey?” I spent the next few hours with Kera and Luke, not wanting to be alone.
Luke was adamant that I’d read the situation wrong. I refused to let myself hang on to that little hope. Luke was my friend and I knew he didn’t want to see me hurting. It was nice of him.
“I know it’s not much, but I’ve got a little truck I’ve fixed up. If you want to make payments at least you’ll have your own ride?”
I smiled the first smile since all this started at Luke’s words. “Thank you. I’d really rather not live off his charity anymore. I have almost a thousand dollars saved up.”
“Hell baby the trucks not worth that m
uch. I’ll sell it for five hundred.”
He appeared genuine so I took him up on the offer. We drove over to Luke’s apartment and he handed me the keys.
It definitely wasn’t much to look at, but it seemed to run pretty good. Beggars can’t be choosers. I at least had my own transportation again. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do about a job, but I’d figured that out. I still had my part time one at the school store.
I had a little experience under my belt now. With a ride I could try and find another job as a waitress. I was making future plans. Taking a deep breath I forced a smile.
I could do this. I’d lived before Sin, and I would find a way to do it again.
Luke told me the car was in decent shape so I decided to drive down to Mississippi to visit my mom. I hadn’t seen her since last break and I was longing to have my family around me.
I told Kera I’d call her when I arrived so she wouldn’t worry. Luke seem convinced the truck could make it. I had classes tomorrow but decided to blow them off. I hadn’t miss any all semester so I knew it wouldn’t count too badly against me.
Driving really helped lessen the pain. At least it did until a song came on that reminded me of Sin. I wasn’t crying anymore. He’d made his decision and I had to move on. That didn’t make it hurt any less.
My mom welcomed me home with open arms. I’d missed this woman so much. She was the most incredible woman on the planet. I knew how blessed I was to have someone who loved me more than life.
Burke was over at a friend’s and I told her not to bother him. I loved my baby brother but I needed some alone time with mom. We talked long into the night and when morning came I felt a renewed sense of purpose.
My mom had a way of making everything look brighter. She’d taken a crappy hand that life had dealt her and never given up. I was shocked to find out she was dating again.
She deserved someone special in her life. She’d given me and my brother so much. “I can’t wait to meet him mom.”
“We’ll try to get up to see you before you finish school. I’m so proud of you Anya. I know you’re going to make a beautiful life for yourself.”
She was a beacon in the darkest storm. I stayed and ate breakfast before dreading the return drive home. I’d forgotten to call Kera when I arrived last night and she was furious.
“All I could think about was you in a ditch somewhere.”
I tried not to laugh at her theatrics and attempted to sound regretful. “I’m sorry I made you worry. I’ll be home tonight, I’m leaving now.”
“You stop by here before heading back to the dorms.”
Bossy Kera, it was so like her that I did laugh. “Yes mom. See you soon.”
My mom and I had a tearful farewell and I began the long drive back to Chicago. The long drive home was boring but I was in a better frame of mind.
I pulled up into the parking lot at Kera’s place completely exhausted.
chapter twenty-five
Coming Home
“Are you trying to give me a heart attack?” I wanted to pull her into my arms and strangle her for worrying me at the same time.
The look on her face made me decide on the first. I opened the door on the ragged truck she was driving and yanked her against my chest. She wasn’t driving this piece of junk again.
“What are you doing here?”
Where the fuck else would I be after going out of my mind for the last sixteen hours. “I’m here to take you home. The next time you pull a stunt like that I’m going to redden your ass until you can’t sit down for a week!”
She pulled out of my arms and looked at me in confusion. “Where’s Linda?” There was no confusion now only fury in those baby-blues.
“How the hell should I know?” I was missing something here. “Grab your purse, I’m taking you home.”
“You’re joking?” She looked at me like I was insane and I obviously was missing the big picture.
“Hell to the fuck no I’m not joking. I come back and have to be told by your girlfriend that you’ve driven some ragged ass piece of shit half way across the country. If you don’t want that pretty ass burning, get in my fucking car.”
“Mississippi isn’t half way across the country.”
She wasn’t correcting me? I was torn between wanting to laugh and make good on my threat. Either way she was coming home now. “Get in the fucking car Anya!”
“Fuck you, Sin.” She cursed me. My sweet little lily had used the F word and not in a nice way.
“I think you better start talking. My hand is getting really twitchy at the moment.” Giving my most hard ass glare, I waited impatiently for her to explain.
“I don’t owe you a damn explanation. You took off with that floozy, and expect me to be waiting here like a puppy dog for you to return. You can kiss my a-ass.”
She was jealous. Holy fucking shit. Didn’t she know that bitch wasn’t worth a million of her? “Please get in the car. I would like to talk this out, but not in a public parking lot.”
I liked her being jealous, it meant she loved me but I wasn’t going to allow that emotion to fuck up what we had. “I said please.”
Rolling her eyes at me, she grabbed her purse out of the truck and slammed the door. “Fine. But I’m starving so if we’re talking your cooking me dinner.”
Bossy little thing. I planned to fuck that out of her later. For now I wasn’t pushing my luck. I was glad she got in my car.
She had the pouty lips for the entire drive back to my place. I wanted to laugh but doubted that would be a point in my favor. Once I got her inside I knew I could make her smile again.
She stomped her perfect little feet up my walkway and waited impatiently for me to open the door. I was biting my tongue to stop the laughter. Pissed off Anya was simply adorable.
“I didn’t fuck her.” I figured that might lighten the mood. Was I fucking wrong!
She came at me like a wildcat. Slapping my face, punching me in the chest, her knee even raised to my groin. That was taking things too far. I lifted her over my shoulder and carried her back to the bedroom tossing her on the bed.
“Calm your shit down little lily.” The glare she gave me was the last straw. I bent over chuckling.
“Fuck you Sin. I hope you choke in your sleep.” Her chest was heaving in anger, and it was so damn sexy.
I had her pinned to the bed in seconds. “You sure that’s what you want baby?” My knee moved between her legs, parting them and rubbing against her sex. “Who’s going to get you off if I croak?”
I was being an ass, but she deserved it. She was supposed to trust me.
“I’ll buy a vibrator.” Damn me if that didn’t make me chuckle again. Her sweet little face was turned away from me, refusing to make eye contact.
I slid my hand between our bodies and snaked it under the hem of her cotton shorts. I found her sweet pussy and it was already damp. A finger plunged deep. “You think a vibrator can take the place of this baby?
She squirmed against my finger. I began riding her. “At least it won’t break my heart.”
The sob that fell from those luscious lips took away the humor. “Silly girl, don’t you know how much I love you? I would never do anything to make you regret loving me back.”
Her tear filled eyes brimming with hope, tugged at my heart. She didn’t know that. How the fuck couldn’t she see how much she meant to me? I didn’t know how to make her understand. All I knew how to do was pleasure her. It was a start.
My fingers slid in and out of her tight folds until her body couldn’t fight me any longer. I’d take what I could get. Her hips began lifting in rhythm with my caress. I knew her body understood what her mind couldn’t accept.
“I own you baby.” I moved my fingers faster, curling them inside knowing just where she liked being touched.
The tears fell down her cheeks as she gave over to the pleasure my hand gave. “You’re killing me here little lily, don’t cry!”
I pulled my finger
s from her, and yanked her shorts and underwear off with one long sweep. She didn’t move when I stood up and took off my clothes. “Tell me you want this baby.” I stroked my cock, not sure what the hell I was going to do if she said no.
I hated knowing she was insecure about my feelings. I wasn’t very sure of hers when she didn’t speak. I didn’t want to lose her. The thought of her standing up and walking out of my life made my gut clench.
“Baby you’ve got to tell me. My fucking heart can’t take this shit.” I felt my own eyes moisten like a fucking pussy. If it took showing my emotions for her to stay with me, I was ready to beg.
She lifted those delicate arms up to me and my legs almost gave way in relief. Fuck her saying the words that small invitation was more than enough. I lowered myself between her legs and never once took my eyes away from hers.
Her legs wrapped around my waist pulling me down and I slid into paradise. “I love you. I love you so damn much I can’t breathe baby.”
I was home. Her arms held me tightly and her soft spoken words healed my fractured heart. “I love you too.”
I loved her body with all the tenderness I knew how to give. Nothing else mattered. Her pleasure. My sweet little lily wrapped around me like a second skin. There was no greater feeling on earth.
“Marry me.” Fuck yeah I meant the words. The thought of her leaving terrified me. It ripped a hole so deep in my goddamn chest that I knew I’d never recover if we were ever apart.
She nodded that sweet little head of golden curls and for once I was the happiest man alive. We made love, cried together, and loved again throughout the night. I hoped she knew I was never letting her out of my sight again.
If someone tells you a real man doesn’t cry, you tell them that only a man who’s never loved before hasn’t shed a tear. I’d cry a fucking river if it meant my Anya stayed with me forever. You can take that shit to the bank and cash it in. True love is worth a few fucking tears.
